Cash squeeze on HMIP hits manpower, monitoring

HM Inspectorate of Pollution (HMIP) is facing a financial squeeze which will force it to cut its staff by almost 10% over the next three years. And budgetary constraints imposed by the Department of the Environment and the Treasury have forced it to delay its first programmes for monitoring releases from industry and to cut back on research, training and inspections.
