Mercury recovery firm under threat from IPC fees
The operator of the UK's only plant for recovering mercury from dental amalgam and silver oxide batteries claims that the fees it will have to pay for regulation under integrated pollution control (IPC) will wipe out its profits. The case highlights the difficulties of applying the current IPC charging system to small firms - although alternative schemes have found little favour with industry at large.
