Energy efficiency loses out in electricity price review

The beleaguered Energy Saving Trust (EST), a cornerstone of the Government's strategy to reduce the UK's carbon dioxide emissions, has been dealt a new blow by the electricity industry regulator Offer. In its review of the regional electricity companies' (RECs) distribution prices, Offer has provided no further funding for the EST, and the RECs will continue to have a strong incentive to maximise sales rather than improve efficiency.
