Odour pollution problems dog wet air oxidation
The city of Leeds was hit by two serious odour pollution incidents in August caused by releases from a wet air oxidation waste treatment plant operated by Yorkshire Water subsidiary Global Environmental. A similar plant in Birmingham, owned by Leigh Environmental, is also under investigation following public complaints. The odour problems will strengthen calls for the process to be regulated under integrated pollution control (IPC).
