Cemfuel under threat from new solvent recovery process

The growing use of waste solvents as fuel in cement kilns does not represent the "best practicable environmental option" (BPEO) for the material, according to solvent recoverer Croda Solvents. The firm is using a process to achieve complete recovery of solvent from distillation residues - and HM Inspectorate of Pollution (HMIP) may expect other solvent recoverers to adopt the technology.
