MPs slam Government plans for motorway charges
Plans by the Department of Transport (DTp) to introduce motorway charging have been criticised by a report from the House of Commons Transport Committee.1 It concludes that charging is primarily a revenue-raising exercise that could increase traffic and environmental damage on local roads. An increase in fuel duty would raise the same amount of revenue without the associated disbenefits, according to the Committee.
