Changes mooted in pollution control procedures and registers
Proposals to amend various procedures for applications and appeals under the two pollution control systems introduced by the Environmental Protection Act 1990 were issued by the Department of the Environment (DoE) on 24 August.1 Industry is likely to welcome a proposal that operators planning changes to their processes which would lead to environmental gains should no longer have to take their applications through the normal advertisement and public consultation procedures. Improvements in the transparency of the two regimes have also been proposed.
