Chemical company fined for fizzing watercourse

Warrington-based chemical manufacturer Hydral Products has been fined £7,500 after spilling tonnes of concentrated sulphuric acid into a stream. The pollution occurred because part of a bund wall intended to contain such spills had been demolished - the latest in a series of incidents in which bunding arrangements on chemical stores have been compromised by mismanagement or contractor errors.
