Supercritical water oxidation homes in on sewage sludge

Prospects for the destruction of organic wastes using supercritical water oxidation appear to be reviving. The US company Modec claims that its process offers a highly efficient, cost-effective option for the destruction of sewage sludge and chemical wastes. Demonstration plants are in use or under construction in the USA and Germany, and several UK water companies are taking an interest.
