Greenpeace opens new front in dioxin dust-up with Coalite

Tests carried out by Greenpeace have found dioxins at levels claimed to be up to 270 times higher than normal in the blood of workers at Coalite Chemicals' works near Bolsover, Derbyshire. The worst contamination was found in workers who were employed in 1968, when an explosion contaminated the site with dioxins. A similar incident at a BASF site in Germany has now been shown to have led to significant health effects in the workforce.
