New environmental controls on fuel quality

Two sets of regulations tightening quality standards for petrol, diesel and heating oil come into force on 1 October.1 They will reduce emissions of sulphur dioxide, volatile organic compounds and particulates - though in one case the rules had to be forced on a reluctant oil industry.
