Minister puts deregulation before product durability

An attempt to give effect to part of the Government's sustainable development strategy by putting legal pressure on manufacturers to increase the durability of their products failed in the House of Lords on 12 October after the Government said it ran counter to its drive to reduce burdens on industry.
