New initiatives to combat noise

The first wide-ranging official guidance on planning and noise since 1973 was issued by the Department of the Environment (DoE) in October.1 At the same time, the Government announced a review of existing controls over neighbourhood noise in response to last year's worst-ever statistics on public complaints about domestic noise.
