Coalite wins insurance settlement - but faces HMIP prosecution
Coalite Chemicals has reached an out-of-court settlement with Royal Insurance in a dispute over liability for dioxin contamination around the firm's works near Bolsover, Derbyshire. The case is shrouded in confidentiality, leaving important questions hanging over the firm's other potential liabilities. Meanwhile, HM Inspectorate of Pollution (HMIP) has begun a long-threatened prosecution of Coalite over dioxin emissions from the site's incinerator.
