UK in danger of missing bathing water target

The quality of the UK's bathing waters improved again this summer, according to statistics given in a parliamentary answer by Environment Minister Robert Atkins.1 But the improvement was well short of expectations, and there now appears to be a real danger that the Government's target to bring all but a handful of waters into line with EC standards by the end of 1995 will be missed by some way.
