Hickson lands £50,000 fine for string of pollution offences

Chemical manufacturer Hickson & Welch has been fined £50,000 for repeated breaches of discharge consents and a chemical spill at its site in Castleford, Yorkshire. Pointing to a £13 million investment in measures to curb river pollution, the company claimed that the case marked a watershed in its environmental performance. But it faces a series of further charges in the coming weeks.
