"Burdens on business" inquiry into EC laws

The Government's campaign to abolish red tape has been extended into a new inquiry to investigate the impact of EC legislation on business.

The inquiry was announced in a parliamentary answer by the President of the Board of Trade, Michael Heseltine.1 Its conclusions may influence the Government's future approach to negotiating and applying EC legislation across a wide range of fields, from which environmental protection is unlikely to be excluded.
