Report on eco-audits highlights verification, inspection issues
The proposed EC Regulation on eco-auditing has received a cautious welcome from the House of Lords Select Committee on the European Communities.1 But its report flags up the need for standards for verifiers who will check the public statements of companies participating in the eco-audit scheme, and also exposes a rift within industry about whether sites which comply with the scheme should be subject to fewer inspections by pollution control authorities.
