Further curbs on asbestos

New restrictions on the supply and use of asbestos came into force in Britain on 1 January.1 Additional controls on asbestos exposure at work have also been introduced.2

The new regulations implement three EC Directives. One of these was a 1991 amendment to a 1976 Directive under which controls on the marketing and use of substances dangerous to human health or the environment are harmonised across the Community.
