Conservationists angered over DoT's tanker code

The oil and shipping industries are drawing up a voluntary code on tanker safety intended to avert a repetition of the oil disaster off the Shetlands. But the Department of Transport (DoT), which is co-ordinating the initiative, has angered conservationists by failing to consult them about areas in which the passage of laden oil tankers should be controlled in order to protect wildlife habitats.
