Landfill levy would boost incineration before recycling

The Government has been presented with a dilemma by a report outlining the impacts of a landfill levy on current waste management patterns. The report concludes that a a levy as high as £20 per tonne of waste would favour a switch to incineration ahead of recycling unless some of the revenues were used to support recycling schemes.1
