Circular on PCP curbs

An official circular explaining local authorities' responsibilities in enforcing new regulations restricting the use of pentachlorophenol (PCP) was issued on 1 February.1

The regulations, which implemented an EC Directive, came into force on 31 January. Their main impact will be to restrict the amateur use of PCP in timber treatment, along with some minor industrial applications and timber and textile articles in commerce (ENDS Report 216, p 35 ).
