EC texts on TiO2, waste shipments, climate change

The official texts of three EC rules on waste from the titanium dioxide industry and on transfrontier shipment of waste are now available, along with a proposal for the Community to ratify the Convention on Climate Change.

  • The Directive on waste from the titanium dioxide industry was originally adopted in 1989. But it was subsequently annulled by the European Court of Justice in a landmark ruling that Environment Ministers had selected the wrong legal base for the legislation (ENDS Report 197, pp 15-16).

    A revised version of the Directive was adopted by Environment Ministers in December, based this time on Article 100a of the EC Treaty.1
