Patchy awareness of law among waste managers

Awareness of the requirements of the "duty of care" on waste producers is poor among many waste managers in larger manufacturing and service businesses, according to a MORI poll conducted for the waste group Biffa. And many managers appear not to be alert to the implications of rising waste disposal costs for their firms' profitability.

The survey was based on telephone interviews with 100 managers responsible for their companies' waste management policies. The sample comprised 31 manufacturing and 69 retail/service businesses. All the companies have more than 200 employees, and 64 have more than 500.
