UK loses EC dispute over hazard rules for incinerators

The Government has backed down in a confrontation with the European Commission over the application of EC rules on major accident hazards to ReChem International's hazardous waste incinerator in Pontypool. Its decision to bring British legislation into line with the EC requirements was slipped out in a parliamentary answer by Environment Minister David Maclean at the end of April.1
