Brussels prepares rules on tractor emissions

Proposals for the first EC rules on emissions from off-road vehicles are expected from the European Commission later this year. They will apply to agricultural and forestry tractors, with the key issue still to be resolved being how stringently particulate emissions should be controlled.

The focus of regulatory activity on vehicle emissions in recent years has been on cars, buses and lorries. Off-road vehicles have largely escaped regulators' attention, but there has been a growing realisation that they make a significant contribution to total vehicle emissions.
