DTI consults on options for collecting waste batteries
Proposals for implementing an EC Directive on the recovery and recycling of batteries have been circulated by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).1 Financial incentives for increasing the high recovery rates for lead batteries are on the cards, but the thorniest problem will be over consumer nickel/cadmium batteries, where the least costly collection options would not achieve a high recovery rate and could fail to secure compliance with the Directive.
