Latest tyre fire threatens drinking water supply

Contaminated run-off from a blaze at an unlicensed tyre dump endangered a drinking water supply near Maidstone in July. The incident, the latest in a long string of tyre fires which have evoked no reaction whatsoever from the Government, has also drawn attention to the lack of funds for emergency clean-up work in pollution incidents.
