Costs, pitfalls and opportunities in LCAs
The cost of a fully-fledged life-cycle assessment (LCA) may top £80,000, although "quick-and-dirty" mini-LCAs are being performed for around £6,000, according to an LCA Sourcebook published by SustainAbility, Business in the Environment (BiE) and the Society for the Promotion of LCA Development (SPOLD).1 It also shows that most environmental groups are suspicious of the science, and warns that without their involvement the credibility of LCAs in decision-making is in some jeopardy.
