Gummer's turn to dance with packaging industry
The Government's three-year flirtation with the packaging industry has at last taken a seemingly decisive step towards its climax. On 27 July, Environment Secretary John Gummer told the packaging industry to come up with a waste recovery and recycling plan - but, unlike his predecessors, he gave them a deadline and a target, of sorts, to aim for. The Government has also told the packaging chain that it must come to the rescue of the ailing recycling sector.
