Accreditation proposals for environmental management systems

Proposals for accrediting organisations which will certify companies to the new British Standard on environmental management systems and the EC's eco-management and audit scheme were issued by the Government on 20 July.¹ But the paper fails to explain in detail what qualifications and experience in environmental management will be required of certification organisations and personnel, or how and by whom checks on their work required by the EC legislation will be carried out.
