Code of practice for LCAs

A code of practice for life-cycle assessment (LCA) practitioners and commissioners has been issued by the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC).1

SETAC began to develop a consensus on how LCAs should be conducted in 1990. It has since held several workshops to develop standardised terminology and methodology. The code is based on the proceedings of a workshop held in April.

The code does not prescribe a methodology but is intended as a guide to conducting, reviewing, presenting and using LCAs.

LCA is still an emerging tool with significant potential for appropriate use as well
