UK bids to extend production of ozone depleters

The UK has asked for five uses of CFCs and two other ozone-depleting chemicals to be exempted from international phase-out deadlines. Just as they did when the UK put in a bid for exemptions from the ban on halons, another group of ozone depleters, critics are questioning why UK industry and Government cannot meet the demand through banking and recycling schemes rather than requiring continued production.
