  • A flocculation and dissolved air flotation system introduced last year at Shell UK's Stanlow petrochemicals complex has cut discharges of oil by 70% and halved discharges of solids to Thornton Brook, resulting in the return of several fish and wildfowl species. The achievement has earned Stanlow first prize in the Business and Environment Achievement Award offered by the Mersey Basin Campaign.
