  • IBM has completely eliminated its use of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), an ozone-depleting substance, as a cleaning and drying agent for electronic components from its manufacturing processes worldwide. Hot on the heels of IBM is Japanese firm Panasonic which has eliminated CFCs from all North American operations and will have done so worldwide by the end of the year. In some cases the firms have had to install new manufacturing processes that do not require CFCs.
