Proposals to deregulate GMOs kicked into touch

A report by the House of Lords Select Committee on Science and Technology which advocated an extensive relaxation of controls on genetically modified organisms (GMOs) received a panning when it was debated in the Lords on 2 December. The Committee's arguments for deregulation were dismissed by the Government, and two former members of the Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution (RCEP) chastised it, forcing two apologies from the Committee's Chairman.
