Draft guidance on chimney height calculation

Proposals for a method of calculating the height of stacks emitting air pollutants have been issued for consultation by the Department of the Environment (DoE).1 The finished product will be used by HM Inspectorate of Pollution and local authorities in regulating air pollution under Part I of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

The proposals were prepared for the DoE by Warren Spring Laboratory. They will complement the 1981 Memorandum on Chimney Heights, which set out methods for calculating stack heights for conventional combustion plants running on standard fuels.
