Draft guide on planning and noise

Revised guidance on planning and noise was issued for consultation by the Department of the Environment (DoE) on 2 January.1 Its main innovation is a set of "noise exposure categories" to guide planning decisions on proposals for noise-sensitive development in noisy areas.

The proposals in the consultation paper will eventually be issued as a Planning Policy Guidance (PPG) note. They were prepared in response to last year's report by the Noise Review Working Party (ENDS Report 189, pp 31-2).
