Brussels considers new ways to tackle environment complaints

A legislative proposal to establish environmental complaints systems within each EC country is being considered by the European Commission. The idea is disclosed in its latest annual report on the implementation of EC law, which reveals that Brussels is being inundated with public complaints about non-compliance with EC environmental legislation.1

The report is for 1990. It contains detailed statistics on the application of all EC legislation by the Member States, and on the actions taken by the Commission in cases of apparent non-compliance. In addition, the environment is given an appendix all to itself, and the Commission has promised that this will be repeated every year.
