First environmental performance report from BP Chemicals

BP Chemicals has joined the small band of chemical companies which have published detailed accounts of their releases to the environment. It has also set itself targets to reduce its emissions and discharges, although these are not as wide-ranging as some other firms' goals.

BP Chemicals' first environmental performance report is "the start of a process which we think should go on and on," according to its Chief Executive, Bryan Sanderson. "The chemical industry doesn't have a good track record," he said, but publishing performance data should help to restore public trust. The corporate report is to be issued annually, and separate local reports are being published for each of the company's main plants.
