Research grants for FGD, VOC abatement and coloured effluent

After a slow start, the Government's Environmental Technology Innovation Scheme (ETIS) is gaining momentum with the award of six new grants. But only £3.4 million of the scheme's £12 million budget has so far been allocated - and the scheme is half-way through its three-year life.

Set up in October 1990, ETIS is run jointly by the Department of the Environment (DoE) and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). The scheme offers grant-aid of up to 50% of costs for pre-competitive collaborative projects.

The six new projects bring the total to 12 with funding of £2.2 million. A further six projects with funding totalling £1.2 million have been approved but the details have yet to be made public.
