Catalytic converters to boost emissions of N2O

Confirmation that emissions of the greenhouse gas nitrous oxide will rise significantly as catalytic converters are fitted to cars has been given in a parliamentary answer by Environment Minister David Maclean.1

The concern that some novel methods for abating emissions of nitrogen oxides may themselves give rise to higher emissions of nitrous oxide was reported by ENDS in April (ENDS Report 205, pp 6-7 ).
