  • Three UK enterprises were highly recommended in this year's European Better Environment Awards for Industry. The recommendations, presented every other year by the European Commission, went to BP Exploration
    for good management of its on-shore oil field at Wytch Farm in Dorset, to BP Chemicals
    for a runway deicer replacement for urea and glycol, and the University of York and Contract Chemicals
    for a clay-based catalyst for chemical processes which claims to reduce liquid effluent and gas emissions, and totally avoid chlorinated solvents. The winner in this clean technology category was Shell International
    for a low-temperature catalytic removal system for NOx emissions from industrial exhausts.
