  • Wyre Borough Council has declined to take a decision on North West Water's planning application for a £150 million wastewater treatment plant at Fleetwood Marsh. The water company has since reapplied to the Department of the Environment. The deferral, the company believes, will make it impossible for it to meet a 1995 Government deadline on the quality of bathing water at Blackpool over which the EC has threatened to prosecute the UK.
