  • North West Water
    has gained an English first by installing a disinfection system using ultra-violet lamps to treat wastewater at its Newbiggin plant in Cumbria. The lamps, costing £156,000, will treat the final effluent channel destroying 90% of the bacteria in the water, and were chosen ahead of chemical disinfection.
