Revised guide on clinical waste incinerators

A revised version of the 1991 guidance note setting out the air pollution controls applicable to small clinical waste incinerators was issued by the Government in August.1

The guidance applies to incinerators with a design capacity to burn less than one tonne per hour of clinical waste. These are controlled by local authorities under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

The changes to the 1991 note were announced in June in the first of a series of "upgrading guidance" notes (ENDS Report 209, pp 28-9
