NRA reports increase in sewage pollution

Serious water pollution incidents declined during 1991, according to a National Rivers Authority (NRA) report.1 But the year also saw a 9% increase in sewage pollution incidents, despite the water industry's massive clean-up programme.

The report takes a detailed look at pollution incidents reported in 1991 and prosecutions resulting from them. Some of the data appeared in the NRA's annual report and were discussed in last month's issue (ENDS Report 211, p 37 ).
