Aquifers beneath Coventry have been contaminated by chloroform in tap water leaking from mains supply pipes, a hydrogeological study has concluded.

The extensive solvent contamination of aquifers beneath Coventry was revealed by a study by Birmingham University three years ago (ENDS Report 178, p 6).

Some of the subsequent findings were discussed at a recent meeting of the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry by Dr David Lerner, the leader of the research team.
