Environment Ministers agree tougher rules on CFCs

The deadline for phasing out CFCs agreed at a global meeting in November was brought forward by a year within the EC at a meeting of Environment Ministers on 15-16 December. Progress was also made on the proposed Regulation on eco-auditing, while the UK secured its aim of getting the implementation and enforcement of EC legislation regularly on the agenda of the Environment Council.

The meeting was the third and last during the UK's six-month Presidency of the Council. It was chaired by Environment Secretary Michael Howard. On the agenda were:
