  • Construction of a ten turbine windfarm using novel lightweight blades on towers 50m high instead of the normal 25-30m has begun at Great Orton disused military airfield. Designed and built by Carter Wind Turbines, the turbines are expected to yield as much energy on this relatively low windspeed site as conventional turbines yield on hilltop locations. The US company plans to set up a UK production facility if sales increase in Europe
